Proposal

Global Citizens for Peace is a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in which we all live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and co-prosperity.

We have come together as concerned Global citizens realizing that with increasing Global population requiring more and more resources with tremendous inequality of distribution our planet is reaching breaking point in terms of economic and ecological crises.

This is having profound social and cultural effects. We require urgent ecological, social, economic and political solutions to problems which affect billions of people if we are to survive sustainably.

During the last few decades, a radical change has occurred in humanity's awareness of itself. In simple terms, we have, over the millennia, translated ourselves from "oneness to aloneness". The truth is that all life on the planet is connected. This newly acquired state of aloneness and alienation causes considerable discomfort. GCFP attempts to understand what we have become and illuminates our future potential.

The vision of Global Citizens for Peace is to contribute towards the creation of a Planetary Peace Culture looking to life and common humanism as the core values for a sustainable society.

Global citizens for peace will also engage in ongoing discussion on environmental and social issues pertaining to peace, establish a peace prize, encouraging the establishment of courses in peace in schools and Universities, and contribute to the organization of "peace cadets" trained in peace making, to administer post conflict reconstruction and demobilization in war-torn Societies as well as aid in recovery in those societies traumatized by poverty and environmental disaster.

The problems of overpopulation, environment and resource depletion seriously endanger continued successful human habitation of our planet. GCFP calls for spiritual, ecological and holistic world views, derived from perceptions of connectedness and interdependence.

We are recruiting people from commerce, primary and secondary industry, who will deliver presentations aimed to act as a catalyst to energise the global community to develop "new ways". We believe this process can contribute to reversing the social, spiritual and ecological degradation of planet Earth.

The essence of a sustainable future lies in the quality of the individual and their positive contribution to society. Optimisation of health and lifestyle for every person is the key to our future.

The current system is not working. Every day we hear news of the effects of climate change and more horrors in continuing wars and threat of nuclear war.

On18 January 2007 The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock two minutes closer to midnight - to 11.55 In their stated reasons the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (BAS) did not mention that the Bush Administration now allows for nuclear weapons to be introduced into a conventional conflict on the recommendation of US field military commanders.

The official announcement of the latest move is:

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (BAS) http://www.thebulletin.org/ will move the minute hand of the "Doomsday Clock" on January 17, 2007 [to 5 minutes to midnight]...the first such change to the Clock since February 2002. The major new step reflects growing concerns about a "Second Nuclear Age" marked by grave threats, including: nuclear ambitions in Iran and North Korea, unsecured nuclear materials in Russia and elsewhere, the continuing "launch-ready" status of 2,000 of the 25,000 nuclear weapons held by the U.S. and Russia, escalating terrorism, and new pressure from climate change for expanded civilian nuclear power that could increase proliferation risks.

We need a basic change in culture and in our relationship with all human beings and also with all of life. This requires an entire philosophical revolution. This is a cause that people need to fight for in terms of a non violent peace response from the very heart of humanity.

Such a response requires us to think peace, act peace and be peace. And it also requires many leaders in many fields to come together to discuss the new paradigm.
